Policy
Youth Safety Policy
Protecting young people is the first priority. These safeguards apply to every session involving a participant under 18.
Parental consent
A parent or legal guardian must create the booking, pay for the session, and give consent before any 1-on-1 mentorship with a minor. The parent or guardian is the account holder and receives all booking confirmations and session summaries.
Session safeguards
Sessions take place on Google Meet, an established video platform, at scheduled times booked through the official calendar. There are no unscheduled calls, no private messaging channels, and no off-platform contact with minors — ever.
Transparency
Parents and guardians are welcome to sit in on any session. After each session, the account holder receives a summary of what was discussed and any agreed next steps, so nothing happens behind closed doors.
Confidentiality with safeguards
Young people are told at the start that conversations are private but not secret: if there is a concern about their safety or someone else's, the mentor will involve a parent or guardian and, where the law requires, the appropriate authorities.
Reporting obligations
Where applicable law requires reporting of concerns involving a young person's safety, those obligations are followed without exception.
Emergencies
Mentorship is not an emergency or crisis service. In an emergency call 911. In Canada, call or text 9-8-8 (Suicide Crisis Helpline) or contact Kids Help Phone at 1-800-668-6868 or text CONNECT to 686868.
